Ok, the painful truth is that we don’t have much of a summer in Calgary. Depending on your frame of reference, 27C is hot or merely warm. Nevertheless, summer is beautiful and I’d rather pretend it’s summer and crave a cold drink on a hot summer day.
Today’s favorite is cold milk chocolate. The advantage of making it yourself (rather than getting it from the store) is that a). you can say with some degree of confidence that you know what you put in it; b). you can control the amount of sugar you add (I always find sweetened foods way too sweet for me). You’ll need milk, of course. Two other ingredients are crucial here: the best cocoa powder you can find on the market (I use 1 and 1/2 teaspoons) and, the latest craze, agave syrup (apparently, sweeter than sugar, so you need to use less). Last, but not least, if you have one of those milk frothers, don’t hesitate to use it to mix the cocoa powder with a bit of milk.
Last step – find a sunny spot outside and enjoy your drink!
